Penley is the lovechild of two powerful Australian wine families. Reginald Lester Tolley, from one of the oldest prestigious wine merchants in Australia, and Judith Anne Penfold Hyland of Penfold’s fame. In 1988 their children established the Penley Estate. Now known simply as Penley, the vineyards are located in the center of Australia’s most famous Cabernet region: Coonawarra. The Francis Cabernet Franc is a rich yet nuanced style of wine. Medium bodied, loaded with dark fruits, oak spice, a bit of pepper, and slight aromas of eucalyptus. More subtle than many wines from the area; staying true to its roots in France, while still being unmistakably Australian. This is the perfect Spring time barbeque wine, pairing well with pulled pork, hearty mac and cheese, or BBQ ribs!
