The first Blanchards store opened its doors in 1838 in Scollay Square in downtown Boston at the site of the current Boston City Hall. In 1938 John Corey purchased the store from the Blanchards family, growing it from a single location into a chain of family-owned stores. A visionary in the liquor industry, he also opened a distilled spirits plant and import business in Boston’s Historic South End during the 1950s. Today Blanchards comprises six retail locations, each individually owned and operated by members of the Corey family,
