Stephane Ogier is one of the hottest 100-point winemakers in all of France and if you want to experience his bar-setting Rhone wines, you have options: spend $300 plus on one of his collector-coveted Cote Roties or partake of his Côtes du Rhône Le Temps Est Venu. Light ruby shades that are nearly transparent and a medium body lead into an unexpected intense palate of plum, leather, raspberries, herbs, and spices. The nose is very floral with notes of violets and roses. Vines that average 40-50 years are grown in limestone and blue clay. A mix of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah yield a wine that is rich, ripe, and fruity. Hand-harvested and double sorted (both in the field and at the winery) the wine is spontaneously fermented in concrete and then aged ten months in concrete tanks. Ogier suggests this wine can be aged five to eight years. Wine Spectator describes Ogier's wines as "dynamic and elite" This is a charming wine with great structure and would be wonderful with barbeque among other dishes. Some might suggest you could find Côtes du Rhône Rouge that are less expensive but I would point out that you can also find wines labeled Chateneuf-du Pape that are much more expensive and very much less satisfying.
