The Ventoux appellation in the southern Rhône is seriously underrated. The landscape is dominated by Mont Ventoux, which reaches 1912 m in altitude. Owing to the proximity of the vineyards to Mont Ventoux, most of them on the western flank of the mountain, this is one of the coolest-climate—and most biodiverse—regions in the southern Rhône. So the common theme of Ventoux wines is an undelying verve and freshness that is definitely found in this blend of Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Clairette, and Syrah, all grown in sandy, clay soils. Each variety is hand-picked, de-stalked and vinified in stainless steel and also aged in tank to preserve the primary fruit aromas and flavors. A carmine red color in the glass this wine is very aromatic with loads of raspberry fruit. Very supple on the palate where, along with the raspberry flavors, there are hints of aromatic herbs that mingle harmoniously on the refreshing, palate-cleansing finish. Thick grilled lamb chops seasoned with garlic and rosemary or a mix of grilled veggies slathered in olive oil seem perfect companions. In addition, this bright and flavorful wine is wonderful for sipping on its own or with a plate of assorted cheeses, cured meats and olives.
