This refreshingly supple liter sized white blend from southern France was rated 91 Points in Wine Enthusiast. Better still is sells for just under ten bucks: what’s not to like? Nothing - this is a true bargain that celebrates the French philosophy of le luxe rural, or rural, everyday luxury. A blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Vermentino harvested from vineyards in the Côteaux du Languedoc, this wine was made with the same exacting care as wines with a much higher price tag. The grapes were destemmed and each variety was vinified separately. Gentle pressing occurred with a pneumatic press, and only the free-run juice was used. The fermentation occurred at 62°F in temperature-controlled stainless steel for two weeks. The wine was aged on its lees with regular stirring for 40 days in new coated cement vats. This process is used to obtain maximum aromatics and fruit flavor intensity while preserving natural acidity. Inviting aromas of citrus fruit and juicy melon rise from the glass. Medium bodied, this wine feels mellow on the palate where you can find vivid stone fruits with flavors and aromas of lemons, mirabelle plums and white flowers. This is a fantastic wine to enjoy outside as an aperitif in the warming weather with friends and family, and to pair with grilled chicken, shrimp, or a plate of soft cheeses and cured meats.
