We love Chardonnay from Burgundy; bright, intense, resonant, and yet always a measured and restrained version of the grape compared to the powerful expressions from California for example. The problem is that many in the world are also desirous of Bourgogne Blanc and the prices are getting high. So, we were delighted to find the Famille Paquet Bourgogne Blanc that we can offer for less than $25. Famille Paquet is an estate located in the commune of Davayé in the Mâconnais. Nestled at the feet of two limestone escarpments - the Roche de Solutré and the Roche de Vergisson. This medium-bodied, and truly delicious Chardonnay pours a brilliant pale gold in the glass with translucent green reflections. The nose displays a mix of white orchard and citrus fruits mixed with notes of white flowers. On the palate, flavors of green apple and lime zest are wonderfully balanced by vivacious acidity and a subtle mineral undertone. The finish is crisp and refreshing. This is a wine for a special preparation of scallops like Coquilles Saint Jacques Bonne Femme or a lobster bisque. Also, a fine companion for a lemon and herb roast chicken or even fish and chips.
