A truly delightful blend of Viognier 43%, Chenin Blanc 41% and Grenache Blanc 16% from the Western Cape region of South Africa. One of the best white wine values on the market that is not as well know as it should be. The name, Wolftrap, is a tribute to the pioneers who in the early days ventured into the Cape wilderness and erected a wolf trap, but it might have been in vain as no wolf has ever been seen in the region! Building the trap might have a fruitless exercise but this wine is no joke - it over-delivers in every sense. The Viognier brings a rich, ripe fruitiness on the nose with its alluring peach aromas. The Chenin offers acidity for balance and freshness, with layered fruitiness on the mid-palate, and the Grenache Blanc provides gentle yellow plum notes and a slightly zesty character. The nose is bold, intense, and rich with stone fruit aromas along with scents of fresh ginger and lime. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, and vibrant with a zesty yet integrated acidity. Easy-drinking, for sure, yet this wine delivers enough sophistication to enjoy with complex dishes - the perfect choice for pairing with sushi, spicy shellfish dishes, even aromatic Chicken Korma.
