This is beautiful wine, in fact an elite wine, at an amazing price that deserves to be on your holiday table, or as a gift to your wine-loving friends or family. A Bordeaux blend of note, dominated by Cabernet Franc, amplified by Merlot and complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon. Taaibosch’s Crescendo may be a new name to many but back in the 1990’s the property from which the Crescendo is sourced, was at the time producing a wine called Cordoba, which was somewhat of a cult wine in South Africa at that time. For whatever reason the owners of the property stopped making Cordoba wines, and it wasn’t until 2017 when the Oddo family, who were French wine specialists, purchased the steep-sloped Helderberg property. They established the single vineyard Taaibosch Crescendo label, and placed one of South Africa’s most respected winemakers, Schalk Willem Joubert, at the helm. The result is a stunning wine with lifted complex aromas of dark fruits including black currants, damson plums, and floral notes of iris blossom or roses, sweet tobacco leaf, pencil shavings, as well as herbal notes of the famed fynbos (a small belt of natural shrub land with aromatic herbs in Coastal South Africa). This is a wine to drink with roast meats and root vegetables, or with aged hard cheeses, or with a friend by the fire in the company of memories and/or future plans to tempt and delight the imagination.
