There are two things of important note that jump from the label. First there is a pretty cool sketch of an herbivorous dinosaur skeleton, and second the vineyards that produce this delightful Malbec are rooted in Patagonia, the southernmost cool-climate region of Argentina.  Why the dinosaur? During construction of the winery the fossilized bones of a herbivorous dinosaur were discovered and construction had to be halted until the remains were carefully unearthed; hence the name Saurus. Patagonia is better known for its Pinot Noirs which flourish in the cool climate. It is well known that Malbec does exceedingly well in the warmer north of Argentina, so we were surprised, and pleased, to find out that this Malbec, both distinctive and delicious, clearly benefits from the effects of a cool climate as well. Very dark in the glass, a kind of black/purple with an abundance of blackberry, black current and damson plum aromas and flavors. The tannins are present but not aggressive. This is a wonderful wine for a beef or lamb roast or stew, also a good way to wash down a plate of aged hard cheeses by the fireplace.
