This might be the best white wine value in the store. Vermentino is an underappreciated grape and this Sardinian version is just enchanting, showing aromas of bright citrus, stone fruit, elderflower as well as an herbal rosemary note. Sourced from a number of vineyards, the wine expresses a range of elevations, exposures, soil types, and micro-climates. Coastal vineyards provide acidity and a refreshing saline character, while further inland the wines show more ripeness and structure. Soils are composed mostly of sand and volcanic sediment. After a short skin maceration, vinification occurs in temperature-controlled steel tanks with lees stirring for 40 days. On the palate it is both unctuously rich and refreshing, perfectly in balance so that this is a fantastic food wine that can also work as an aperitif before a meal. Versatile at the table, serve this with cured meats, soft goat cheeses, savory pies, roast poultry, and all types of seafood.
