The Dão region is the perfect temperate sweet-spot for what many consider to be Portugal’s best white grape - the excellent Encruzado. It is here that Natalia Jessa, originally from Poland, is producing beautiful classic Dão wines. The cool climate of the Dão allows for slow drawn-out flavor development and the production of elegant full-bodied whites which can be stylistically akin to fine white Burgundy. This one is 50% Encruzado (plus three other varietals: Malvasia Fina, Bical, and Cerceal Branco) vinified without oak but given six months of ageing on the yeast lees which adds to its quasi-creamy texture. Mouth-filling and layered, with nuances of apple and pear, sweet Marcona almonds and white flowers, this is a superb partner for all sorts of flavorful seafood.
