Set in the shadow of Mont Blanc in the French Alps, it would be easy wax poetic about the stunning backdrop of Domaine des Ardoisieres at some length. Resisting that temptation and sticking to the wine, this 100% Jacquère from the Apremont area of Savoie (from whence many would attest Jacquère should be) is an opportunity to taste wine made by a true master of their craft and appellation at an approachable price. Celebrated vigneron Brice Omont sources from vines as old as sixty years, producing a white wine plenty complex enough to stand up to a diverse range of dishes. Organically produced with lovely aromas of almond blossom and Meyer lemon followed by layers of quince, pear, and a persistent filament of minerality throughout. This is serious white, assertive and rife with character, yet it clocks in a mere 11% ABV! Pair it with cheese fondue, raclette, or a robust alpine tomme if you want to be traditional about it, but it will also do excellently with creamy sauces, lightly treated white meat poultry, or polenta.
