Lavradores de Feitoria is a small, quality driven cooperative of 15 growers in Portugal’s famed Douro region. An area most well-known for Port, the fortified dessert wine, this zone named for the river it traces should get a lot more credit for its dry wines, particular the bang they deliver for the buck. Portugal is home to all manner of native varieties that are rarely, if ever, seen outside its borders. Lavradores de Feitoria makes use of a few of those white varieties (those by the names of Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, Síria in this case), all tolerant of the Douro region’s hot climate whilst retaining bright acidity and freshness. This wine shows a preponderance of bright and playful fruit: pineapple, apricot, mango, and lime, all without ever approaching sweetness. It’s perfect for a bright spring day, but if such pleasures are not immediately available, it can be transporting as well…

First and foremost, this is a great picnic wine. But more specifically Lavradores Branco will pair well with fresh salads, chilled soups, lean fish and other seafood, as well as white meats.
