There is nothing more warming on a cold autumn or winter night than a glass of fine Port. Not just any Port, but this Late Bottled Vintage Port which really over-delivers for the price. It is worth noting that “Late Bottled Vintage” Port is a special category brought to commercial success in the 1960s. Late-Bottled Vintage means just what it says on the label: wine from a single year bottled after four to six years in barrel where the fierce tannins in young Port are softened and mollified. It is a vintage Port in style, but not in price, and it is ready to drink now. Whether with dark chocolate desserts, aged Cheddar, Manchego or by a roaring fire and your 'honey' beside you; this will warm you through and through. Big, ripe, black fruit with notes of Kirsch and a firm structure make this a smooth beast, but a touch of mint keeps it from being cloying. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gives it 90 points, Wine Enthusiast 92 points and we agree.
