A rare blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon that is an exceptional value. This is another remarkable wine coming from the Pedroncelli winery who, for 95+ years, has been crafting exceptional wines in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley. The grapes are sourced from neighboring vineyards in Sonoma County that have a long association with the Pedroncelli winery. The growing season was a warm and even one with smaller production stemming from drought conditions, giving an intensity of flavors and color. Added complexity stems from ageing for 12 months in small American oak barrels, 25% new oak (think about that for a moment, an under ten-dollar wine aged in oak barrels from Sonoma County!!). This amount of time in barrel allows the wine to take on some complexity from the oak but not too much. The wine shows a high concentration of aromatics, varietal flavors, and mild acidity. Aromas of blackberry, cherry, and warm spice. Smooth tannins and light toasty oak notes frame the cherry, plum and vanilla flavors. It is a medium-bodied balanced wine with a round fruity finish and is made in a ready to drink style—no aging required. Think pizza, pasta, burgers or plate of cured meats and cheeses. A superb value wine from California.
