A classic example of restraint besting exuberance, this is an elegant and refined Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. Evesham Wood, founded in 1986, has been recognized as one the finest producers of Pinot Noir in Oregon for a number of years. Sometimes we describe a single varietal wine as exhibiting "typicity", and this is definitely a Pinot Noir that sings with all the qualities we love about classic Pinot Noir. Ruby red in color with a lovely aromatic complexity that shows bright cherry, raspberry, strawberry and cranberry, as well as something the French call sous bois (undergrowth) best described as the smells evocative of the forest floor such as damp leaves, savory herbs, humus, and mushrooms. This is a wine that changes each time you lift your glass, evolving over time dancing between fruitfulness, aromas of the forest, as well as touches of clove and cinnamon from barrel aging in oak. Drink this with slow-cooked beef roasts and stews: a Pinot Noir that deserves to be savored over a long meal during the coming autumnal season of 'mists and mellow fruitfulness', to steal a phrase from the great John Keats.
