The brothers behind Vina Zorzal in Navarra had dreamed of making wine in their neighboring Rioja. That dream was realized in 2015 with their first vintage of Rioja after more than 5 years working the vineyards. The name El Inquilino means “the tenants” which is a nod to their recent arrival in the region. This, nonetheless, is a classic Rioja wine made with the hands of experienced vignerons. A careful selection of Tempranillo (80%) and Garnacha (20%) were picked by hand. Alcoholic fermentation took place in 5.000-liter stainless steel vats with indigenous yeast before malolactic fermentation and 12 months of aging in 2-year-old, 225-liter French oak barrels. A beautiful clean ruby color in the glass, this wine exhibits aromas of red fruit such us raspberry, strawberry, red cherry, along with black pepper and lovely notes of vanilla and clove. Dry and fresh on the palate with a medium body and soft, supple tannins, this wine has a long finish with red fruits flavors, mineral hints, and mouth cleansing acidity. Served at cellar temperature this is an ideal accompaniment for cured ham, stews, game, and meat dishes
