CVNE – that’s “Compañia Vinicola del Norte de Espańa”, but nobody calls it that, is one of the original seven producers to invent the Rioja wine at the end of the 19th century, when they all set up their bodegas in Haro for easy access to the train. Better known for its spectacular red wines Rioja also produces truly charming white wines, some that are capable of aging and developing great complexity with time. This traditional Rioja Blanco (it has been produced since 1915) is one for immediate consumption. Made from 100% Viura grapes harvested from Rioja Alta vineyards with head-trained vines on clay soils. All work is carried out by hand, including the grape harvest. On arrival at the winery, the grapes are macerated with their skins for 8 hours at a temperature of 10-12ºC. The grapes then pass by gravity through a small pneumatic press, producing the must. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to extract and preserve the distinctive, fruity and floral primary aromas of the variety. Pale yellow in color this refreshing white shows aromas of white currant, apple, pear and elderflower. On the palate the wine has a smooth entry and a long mid-palate, with a touch of acidity at the end that gives a freshness prior to a fruity and floral aftertaste. This is a fine companion with starters, appetizers, shellfish and white fish.
