Owners and winemakers Giuseppe and Mauro Pavia are self-proclaimed Barbera specialists: “We want everyone to know the greatness of Barbera d'Asti”. In the 1980s they purchased vineyards in the beautiful rolling hills of Algliano Terme, situated in Asti, in the Piedmont region of North-West Italy. The vineyards are on quite steep hillsides, looking South. This 100% Barbera and has been aged in large oak barrels for just four months. This gives it a layer of 'creaminess' without damaging the fruit. Casareggio Barbara D’Asti opens up with sour cherries and leather on the nose followed by smoky strawberry, plum, and lavender on the palate. It has that classic Italian balance of acidity and fruit that makes it very food friendly. Pair it with pastas, sausages, or roast birds.
