Joan d'Anguera is the property of brothers Joan and Josep Anguera, seventh-generation farmers in Darmós located in the southern part of the mountainous Montsant wine region about 90 miles west of Barcelona. The vineyards of this 30-hectare estate are farmed at altitudes between 200-300 meters on a mix of clay and calcareous soils. The brothers work as naturally as possible in the vineyards and cellar which have been certified organic and biodynamic. All their wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and bottled unfiltered. The Altaroses is a pure expression of Garnatxa which is the Catalan spelling for Garnacha, also known as Grenache in France. Aromatically complex with a nose of fresh strawberries, rosemary, and lavender. This medium weight red is remarkably supple on the palate with mouth-watering acidity, red berry fruits, tea leaf and fine tannins. This is a lot of wine for the money and can pair with the full range of cured or smoked meats. Also delicious with barbecue, this wine is a perfect marriage of elegance and bold complexity.
