We are always looking for complexity, and balance in a wine and that is what you will find in this bottle. An interplay of textures, aromas, and flavors all combine to make this wine simply delicious. On the nose scents of apple, pear, lemon zest, along with floral notes and hints of baking spices, fill the glass. On the palate you sense not only apple and pear but also stone fruits such as peach or nectarine and there is a rich mouthfeel, unctuous but counter-balanced by a fresh pulse of mouth-watering acidity on the finish. As complete a California Chardonnay as you will find. The reasons why… privilege of place plays an important part as the vineyards are located in the southern end of the Alexander Valley near the Russian River where some of the finest Chardonnays from California originate. Morning fog, warm days, and daily diurnal temperature swings of 40 to 50 degrees provide the ideal growing conditions for Chardonnay. These vines are meticulously cared for to ensure uniform ripeness and when that is achieved 75% of the fruit is harvested at night when the grapes are cool to retain the natural acidity. Most of the harvest is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the primary fruit and freshness. But for added complexity 25% of the best bunches are whole-cluster pressed and barrel fermented in French oak. The barrel fermented lots undergo secondary malolactic fermentation and age on the lees for six to eight months to develop roundness and body. Drink this on the deck in the sun with fresh fruit, cheeses, and cured meats. Also, it is a perfect match for all forms of shellfish especially lobster.
