A bit off-the-radar, the wines of Corsica do not get the attention they deserve, and the Domaine Petroni Rosé is one of our best values year in and year out. The vineyards, surrounded by mountains to the west, sit on the east coast of Corsica right near the lagoon known as Lake Diane. Oysters and mussels are cultivated in the lagoon and these would be marvelous natural pairings for this delicious Rosé. Founded in 1885 the property is now in the hands of brothers Jacques and Francois Ramazotti. Like most rosés of this region, it is a blend of 50% Niellucciu, 35% Sciaccarellu, and 15% Grenache. Aromas of nectarine, cherry, strawberry and watermelon swirl out of the glass, also there are some nice floral notes. Opulent and succulent on the palate this wine balances fresh mouth-watering acidity with an unctuous, viscous feel to the mid-palate. Extremely food friendly, this wine pairs well with steamed mussels, calamari, grilled chicken or pork, as well as any oily fish – halibut, salmon, sword fish or tuna.
